AR Rahman and Prabhu Deva Reunite After Three Decades: 'Moonwalk' Strikes a Chord with Lahari Music Partnership
In a throwback that feels like musical magic from the '90s, Oscar-winning composer A.R. Rahman and dance maestro Prabhu Deva are joining forces once again for Moonwalk, a vibrant family entertainer poised to light up screens in 2025. Announced earlier this year with a splashy poster reveal on X (formerly Twitter), the film marks their first collaboration since the iconic Gentleman in 1993—spanning over 30 years of anticipation for fans of their signature blend of rhythm and choreography.
Directed by Manoj N.S., the founder and CEO of Behindwoods, Moonwalk is produced by Manoj N.S., Divya Manoj, and Praveen Elak. The project promises a breezy narrative laced with humor, making it perfect for audiences of all ages. Cinematography is handled by Anoop V.S., with editing by Raymond Derrick Crasta, ensuring a visually dynamic ride. As shooting enters its second phase in Chennai, the buzz is only growing, with post-production moving at a brisk pace.
A Musical Milestone with Lahari Music
Adding to the excitement, veteran label Lahari Music has come on board as the official music partner, acquiring the rights to the film's soundtrack. This marks Lahari's third collaboration with both Rahman and Prabhu Deva, following their releases of Gentleman's timeless tracks and the Telugu version of Kadhalan (Premikudu). Founder Manoharan Naidu couldn't hide his enthusiasm: "This is our 50th year in the music industry, and we're thrilled to be onboard as the music partner of Moonwalk. The songs are truly the heartbeat of the film, and we're excited that these extraordinary soundtracks, crafted by A.R. Rahman, will reach every corner of the globe with the quality and scale they deserve."
Rahman's compositions have long been the soul of Prabhu Deva's high-energy dances, and Moonwalk pays homage to that legacy. Their past hits—like "Chikku Bukku Rayile" from Gentleman, "Petta Rap" from Kadhalan, "Romeo Aatam" from Mr. Romeo, and tracks from Love Birds and Minsara Kanavu—set the bar sky-high. Expect nothing less here, with the film gearing up for a pan-India release in Tamil, Malayalam, Telugu, Kannada, and Hindi.
Star-Studded Cast and First Single Tease
Prabhu Deva leads the ensemble, supported by a lively supporting cast including comedian Yogi Babu, Aju Varghese, Arjun Ashokan, Satz, Nishma Chengappa, and Sushmita Nayak. The poster's ethereal blue waves and starry motifs hint at a dreamy, adventurous vibe—perfectly capturing the "moonwalk" essence.
Fans won't have to wait long for a taste: The debut single, "Storm - The Moonwalk’s Anthem," featuring Rahman, Prabhu Deva, and rap by Arivu, drops on November 19—just days away. This track is set to be the film's pulsating heartbeat, blending Rahman's melodic genius with Prabhu Deva's iconic moves.
Why Moonwalk Feels Like Nostalgia Reimagined
As the makers put it, Moonwalk is "a token of tribute to both the great artists who have given so much to the Indian film and entertainment industry." In an era craving feel-good stories, this reunion isn't just a film—it's a celebration of creativity that transcends generations. With Rahman's global soundscapes and Prabhu Deva's unmatched footwork, expect Moonwalk to glide straight into our hearts when it hits theaters in 2025.
